Road Closure Scheduled for Sept. 7
BEAUFORT – Duke Power will be performing tree removal work starting at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 7, 2017 at 315 Turner Street. There will be road closures in the area while work is being completed. The removal is being done to address public safety concerns.
Safety is the Town’s number one priority. It has been brought to the Town’s attention that the oak tree at the intersection of Turner and Cedar Streets is a safety risk and poses a threat to drivers.
The property owner states “I have discussed with the town, the power company and other utility companies, the safety risk that the tree on the corner of the property is causing. In the next major storm, there is a great likelihood that the tree will either take all of the utility lines down, and those lines and the tree may land on our building.”
Town public safety officials fear the tree is causing a significant impact on visibility and could result in a serious traffic collision. Traffic signals are being blocked by the tree and semi-trucks have already hit the overhanging limbs on several occasions in recent months.
The removal work will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 7. Duke Power will perform the tree removal. Town of Beaufort Police and Public Works will be performing traffic control. The east bound lane will be closed from the eastern side of Moore Street to Turner Street.
Motorists are reminded to always drive with caution, slowdown in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
