Nov. 13, 2017

BEAUFORT - At 9:25 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017, the Beaufort Fire Department was dispatched to the Core Creek Lodge, 307 Core Creek Road, Beaufort, for a structure fire. Upon arrival, heavy fire was showing from the roof of the single story building. All occupants had been evacuated prior to arrival.

Morehead City, Harkers Island, Otway, and North River Fire Departments were dispatched auto-aid, together with Beaufort EMS. Additional tankers were dispatched from Mill Creek, Newport and Harlowe Fire Departments. Marshallberg, Cherry Point, Pine Knoll Shores and Indian Beach Fire Departments were also dispatched for additional manpower.

Several attempts were made at an interior attack; however, due double roof construction and the open attic of the structure, Harkers Island’s ladder truck was set up for an elevated master stream in order to extinguish the fire. The fire was contained but not fully extinguished until morning.

Beaufort Fire Department cleared the scene at 10:04 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 13, and the fire scene was turned over to the Carteret County Fire Marshal’s Office for determination of the cause of the fire.
