Post Date:01/30/2018 12:45 PM

BEAUFORT – Additional traffic mitigating changes have been announced by the North Carolina Department of Transportation to aid in the traffic issues surrounding the opening of NCDOT’s bridge project in Beaufort. NCDOT has advised that these changes will be complete prior to rush hour traffic on Jan. 30, 2018. Estimated times of completion are listed with each item.

Significant changes include:

  •  The re-opening of the Grayden Paul drawbridge to eastbound traffic only. This means traffic entering Beaufort from Morehead City will be able to use the drawbridge in addition to the new high rise. This is scheduled to occur by 5 p.m.
  • Live Oak (Old U.S. 70) in the Shell Landing area will be re-opened to both eastbound and westbound traffic. Eastbound traffic will be able to turn right to access the new 70. Westbound traffic on U.S. 70 will be able to make a left turn to access Live Oak (Old U.S. 70). This is scheduled to occur by 1p.m.
  • A right turn only lane headed toward Beaufort will be added to Highway 70 eastbound at the intersection of N.C. 101. This is scheduled to occur by 3 p.m.
  • Modifications have already been made to signal phasing at the intersection of N.C. 101 and Highway 70.
