Here is a list of community resources for those in need of food and other assistance.

Free meals

  • First Baptist Church “Five Loaves,” 403 Ann St., Beaufort: 6 p.m. Monday.
  • Calvary Baptist Church “Two Fishes Café,” 119 Bunch Road, Beaufort: 6 p.m., first, third and fourth Thursday.
  • Bridgeway Church of the Nazarene, 100 Lockhart Dr., Beaufort: 6 p.m. the second Thursday of each month.
  • Hope Mission, 1410 Bridges St., Morehead City: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
  • Impact Church, 2900 Bridges St., Morehead City; 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Tuesday.

 Food pantries

  • Loaves and Fishes Thrift Shop and food pantry, Beaufort Plaza Shopping Center, Beaufort: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., first three Mondays of the month, 504-0123.
  • Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, Harkers Island Fire Department: noon to 1 p.m., fourth Tuesday of each month, 418-8020.
  • ACTS Food Pantry, 450 Highway 70, Bettie: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, 728-1414.
  • Calvary Baptist Church, 119 Bunch Road, Beaufort: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the fourth Monday of the month.
  • St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 215 Ann St., Beaufort: must be sent from County Department of Social Services, 728-3324.
  • Glad Tidings Church “Daily Bread Ministries,” 4621 Country Club Road, Morehead City: call for information, 726-0160.
  • The Salvation Army, 1700 Arendell St., Morehead City; call to make appointment, 726-7147.
  • Martha’s Mission Cupboard, 901 Bay St., Morehead City: need a voucher from DSS. For information, call 726-1717.
  • Matthew 25, St. James United Methodist Church, 1007 Orange St., Newport: 10 a.m. to noon, Monday and Thursday, 223-4231.
  • The Storehouse, 3114 Bridges St., Morehead City: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday, by appointment, 725-5539.
  • God’s City of Refuge, 953 Hibbs Road, Newport: 10 a.m. to noon the third Saturday every other month.
  • Wildwood Presbyterian Church, 276 Wildwood Road, Newport: 5 p.m. Tuesdays and 4 p.m. Thursdays for produce and bread; call 726-3407 to arrange to pick up nonperishable food items and frozen meat. 

N.C. Food Truck visits and food giveaways

The N.C. Food Truck visits on a monthly basis:

  • Faith Tabernacle of Praise, 413 Highway 101, Beaufort: 1 to 3 p.m., second Monday of each month.
  • God’s City of Refuge, 953 Hibbs Road, Newport: begins at noon the third Friday every other month.
  • St. James United Methodist Church, 1007 Orange St., Newport: beginning 9 a.m. the last Thursday of each month.
  • Calvary Baptist Church, 119 Bunch Road, Beaufort: 10 a.m. the fourth Monday of each month.
  • St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, 111 Hodges St., Morehead City: noon to 1 p.m., first Friday of each month, sponsored by The Salvation Army, 726-2175 or 726-7147.
  • Woodville Baptist Church, 450 Highway 70, Bettie: 11 a.m. the third Friday of each month.

  • The Loaves and Fishes Down East Thrift Store, 112 Straits Road, Otway: 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
  • The Salvation Army, 1700 Arendell St., Morehead City:9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
  • Second Blessings, 5178 Highway 70, Morehead City: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, 726-7921.

  • St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church Thrift Shop, 1107 Arendell St., Morehead City: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
  • Straits United Methodist Church Thrift Shop, 311 Straits Point Road, Straits; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday and Saturday.

Resources for homeless

  • Hope Mission, 1410 Bridges, Morehead City. Men’s homeless shelter, check in at 6 p.m. seven days a week, call 240-2359.
  • Family Promise of Carteret County Inc., 3502 Elm St., Morehead City: For homeless women and children and families, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, call 222-0019.
