Board of Adjustment
The Board of Adjustment meeting will be held on Monday, February 27, 2012, at the Train Depot, 614 Broad Street, Beaufort, N.C. The public is invited to attend. See a copy of the agenda.
The Board of Adjustment is composed of five regular members and two alternates. Three of the regular members and one alternate are appointed by the Town of Beaufort Board of Commissioners and reside within corporate limits. Two regular members and one alternate are appointed by the Carteret County Board of Commissioners and reside within the extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) of Beaufort. The Board of Adjustment is a quasi judicial Board who by North Carolina law, has the authority to reverse orders or decisions made by any officer, department, or board of the Town relative to enforcement or interpretation of the Town's Ordinances within a certain time frame. The Board of Adjustment may also grant a variance of the Zoning Ordinance to property owners if there is an undue hardship for granting the variance and if there is substantial evidence to support the hardship.
