Yard Debris Guidelines

Acceptable Yard Debris includes the following: leaves, limbs, grass clippings and bush cuttings. Please follow Town Ordinances and procedures for yard debris pickup. For more information call (252) 728-2141 ext. 221.

Guidelines: 

  • Bring yard debris to the roadway (not in the road, next to the road).
  • No plastic bags; paper yard debris bags are accepted.
  • Containers shall be 35 gallons or less & have a sealable lid.
  • Containers must weigh less than 50-lbs when full.
  • It is prohibited to mix any other items with yard debris. (No trash mixed in with yard debris)
  • Yard debris  pickup is provided for residential customers.
  • Yard debris in a pile should be less than 5 cubic yards (ie: 4 ft. high, 4 ft. wide & 8 ft. long).
  • No tipper cans are permitted.
  • Materials generated by lawn/landscaping service are NOT accepted.
  • Limbs larger than 8 inches in diameter or 4 feet in length are NOT accepted.
  • Rocks are not accepted.
  • Violations of Town Ordinance Chapter 50 pertaining to Yard Debris can result in a $150 violation.

Residential Yard Debris Pickup Schedule: (Please note Public Works attempts to make pickups on the listed days; however, unforeseen circumstances do arise.) Yard debris is picked up on Mondays and Tuesdays. Check the following list to see when yard debris is scheduled to be picked up on your street. All yard debris must be out by 7 a.m. the day of collection.

Monday Pickups: South Cedar to Front Street, Sunshine Court, Moore Street, Orange Street, Craven Street, Queen Street, Pollock Street, Marsh Street, Live Oak Street, Broad Street, Ann Street, Front Street, Gallants Landing, Live Oak to Lennoville @ boat ramp, Gordon Street, Fulford Street, Hill Street, Gerald Street, Seaview Street, Belle Air Avenue, Ocean Street, Leonda Drive, Carrot Island Lane, Taylors Creek Road, Laurel Road, Island View Drive, Sunset Lane, Carteret Avenue (Live Oak to Lennoxville), Hedrick Street (Broad to Lennoxville), Yaupon Lane, Live Oak (east side), Pine Street (east of Live Oak) and Beaufort Walk

Bulk Items Guidelines

Bulk item pickup must be scheduled by 5 p.m. on Monday of the week pickup is requested by calling Town Hall at (252) 728-2141 ext. 221.

Bulk Item pickup is on Wednesday. All items must be at the curb by 7 a.m.

Acceptable Bulk Items include the following: furniture, mattresses, wood and construction debris generated by the homeowner, not by a contractor. Any single item must be less than 6 feet long and weigh less than 75 pounds.

Not accepted: tires, carpet, cement, concrete, brick, shingles, propane tanks, large appliances, large electronics including TVs and computers. No contractor debris is accepted.
