Town of Beaufort Identification Checkpoint to start Thursday, Be Prepared
Beaufort - The Town of Beaufort declared a State of Emergency on March 17 due to the unprecedented public health threat posed by COVID-19. After determining that restrictions and prohibitions were necessary to protect public health and safety, the Mayor issued a Stay at Home Proclamation that became effective March 25. All current restrictions and orders outlined in the Town of Beaufort’s current declaration remain in effect through April 29 unless modified, extended or rescinded to meet changing conditions. Law enforcement continues to work diligently to enforce entry restrictions and to take appropriate action for those violating the emergency declaration.
On Thursday, April 9, 2020 the Beaufort Police Department will begin operating an entry checkpoint on Turner Street near US-70.
Entry is permitted if you meet ANY of these criteria:
• Residing in Carteret County full-time, year-round
• Sheltering in place in Beaufort, and nowhere else, as of March 31, 2020
• Engaging in Essential Business, Outdoor Service, or Essential Government Service in
Beaufort, as identified in the Town’s Stay at Home Proclamation.
• Providing necessary care for a Beaufort resident
To gain entry, each adult in a vehicle must provide ONE of these forms of documentation:
• Valid NC driver’s license (or other government-issued ID) with a Carteret County address
• COVID-19 Entry Pass issued by the Town of Beaufort apply here (entry pass application) or email entrypass@beaufortnc.org)
• Proof you are engaging in an Essential Business, Outdoor Service, or Essential Government Service.
Examples of proof include:
o For employees: pay stub, identification badge, letter from employer, etc.
o For customers: medical or veterinarian appointment cards, letter from service provider, summons, prescription bottle, claim ticket, order confirmation, etc.
 
Please be aware that without the above identification, you will be denied entry into Beaufort.
At the checkpoint, you must follow these rules or be denied entry:
• Remain in your vehicle at all times. Do not approach the police officers.
• Close all windows.
• Hold documentation up to the closed window, on the side the officer approaches. If there are questions, follow instructions from the officer on how to proceed.

Access to Beaufort Changing to Turner Street on Sunday, April 5, 2020
BEAUFORT – The Town of Beaufort will only be accessible by entering on Turner Street at US70​ beginning Sunday, April 5, 2020.
The change of entry from NC101 at US70 is being made for the protection of our police officers as we transition to the operation of identification checkpoints.
All adult passengers in a vehicle will need to provide a North Carolina Driver’s License or Military ID with a Carteret County address to enter Beaufort.
A pass system is in place and Beaufort residents and essential employees are being issued entry passes. We ask that these passes are held to the window on whichever side of the vehicle an
officer approaches from. Do NOT roll down your window unless instructed by an officer to do so. In addition to the pass, each adult passenger in the vehicle will need to hold up their NC Drivers License
with a Carteret County address in the window.
Entry into Beaufort will not be permitted without these forms of identification. Businesses are being contacted with instructions for delivery drivers. Essential employees will receive their passes from their
employer. In the event an employee has not received their pass in time and does not have a valid NC Drivers License or Military ID with a Carteret County address, they can show their driver’s license and an
identification badge and/or paycheck stub from their employer.
Full-time residents will receive their passes at the address listed on their utility bills. Please note passes are only being distributed to property owners with a Beaufort mailing address. You must physically be in Beaufort to receive this pass. At this time, entry to non-county residents is not permitted if you are not already here.
Apartment complexes where water is included in rent will receive their passes from the property management team.
