Trash/Recycling Services / Bulk Item & Yard Debris

Sept. 11, 2019 - Storm Debris

While the debris resulting from Dorian is considerably less than that resulting from Florence, it is still at a volume greater than the Town staff is capable of removing in a timely fashion. Consequently, the Town has activated the contract it has in place with TFR Enterprises, Inc. for storm debris removal.

TFR will begin collection on the morning of Friday, September 13th. Please try to have your vegetative storm debris curbside by 8am Monday, September 16th.  Vegetative debris should be placed  along the curb, not in the road. DO NOT place vegetative debris in bags or containers. Construction debris and bulky items must be placed in separate piles. The contractor will not pick up any debris that is mixed. Bulk item pick up needs to be scheduled with Town Hall by Monday at 5pm for pick up on Wednesday.

Sept. 4, 2019 - All solid waste and recycling services are suspended for Thursday and Friday, Sept. 5 & 6, 2019.

GFL Update

All disposal sites will be closing on Thursday and Friday – At this time we are making the call to cancel ALL trash and Recycling services for Thursday and Friday – we will evaluate the situation after the storm to potentially run some skeleton crews on Saturday. With that said services will be scheduled to resume on Monday pending assessment. Anyone not receiving service on Thursday and Friday of this week will be serviced next week on their normal day of service – any additional normal household trash or recycle for those customers will be cleaned up at that time.

Recycling - No pickup in Beaufort on Sept. 5 & 6

Recycling Services have been suspended by Sonoco on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 5 & 6, 2019. They hope to resume services on Saturday if possible. An announcement will be made after the storm has passed through the area and damage assessments can be made.

GFL Update

With the storm’s path and timing still uncertain we are trying to make the best decision for our employee’s safety as well as our customers. There are some current and future closers and delays that are already making significant impacts on our ability to service our customers this week. Onslow County Landfill has announced closing tomorrow and Friday, the Newport TS and Craven County LF are going to make a call by 11:00 am today, and Sonoco Recycling is expected to announce closing on Thursday as well. These disposal sites play a critical role in our ability to service our customers –

I wanted to reach out to this morning to say that we are leaning towards canceling services on Thursday and Friday for Residential services –I know some of you have reached out earlier to proactively cancel some services and this decision will not impact or be a change from those calls that you have made. I well send out a definitive announcement at noon today. We just want to make every effort to call it right and still give ample time to communicate the announcement.

Items that we take into consideration for these decisions:

        Employee safety
Employees ability and timing to secure their property and loved ones
        Customer impact
        Disposal site availability
        Ability to operate in conditions
        Canceled Services make up logistics.

Sept. 3, 2019 - The Town will not pick-up bulk items or yard debris that is not placed at the curb by 12 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019.

Daily GFL Update for Sept. 3: As of this morning we are still planning on running normal schedules this week. With that said as Dorian starts her path up the coast there appears to be likelihood of potential delayed services around Thursday of this week.  We are waiting to hear the County EMS reports and guidance today – our employees and customer’s safety are our number one priority. Along with the timing and potential of severity of the storm’s impact we could potentially see delays related to potential operation changes at the disposal site that we use. We are already seeing delays at disposal sites due to an increase of pre-storm purge volumes. As we get more information I will pass it along with any updates to our plan and schedule for services this week. Should we experience a delay or lost day of service our plan will be to make that day up running routes delayed by that day and to catch up by Saturday-

Sept. 2, 2019 - GFL Update

We are wrapping up our initial prep for the potential impact of Hurricane Dorian. At this time, we strongly anticipate running normal schedules for all services this week.  This is certainly a fluid situation. As conditions potentially change the possibility of service delays could occur.
