It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of former Beaufort Police Chief Marvin Knox. Chief Knox served honorably in the United States Marine Corps prior to beginning his career with the Beaufort Police Department. He served with the BPD from 1969-1999 in a full-time capacity, 16 years as Chief of Police (1973-1989). He then took a support role and served in various capacities through 2011. He was a valued member of the Beaufort community and will be missed.
"He maintained a deep connection to the officers and agency since his retirement," said Police Chief Paul Burdette. "He would often stop in to talk and socialize with staff since my arrival in 2015. His memory permeates our past and he will be missed."
Funeral arrangements are being coordinated through Munden Funeral Home located in Morehead City, with family visitation on Wednesday March 29 followed by his funeral service on March 30.
