Work by the Town of Beaufort’s contractor, Sunland Builders, Inc., is scheduled to begin on
Monday, June 19, 2023. The work will be performed along Cedar Street from its intersection with Turner
Street to the Pollock Street intersection. The work will involve the demolition and removal of the
parking lane asphalt on both sides of the street followed by the replacement of the asphalt with
pervious concrete. Work will be conducted on a block-by-block basis with the Turner Street to
Craven Street block being first. Sunland Builders will begin work at the Craven Street to Queen
Street block upon completion of the Turner to Craven block. Thereafter, the Queen Street to Pollock
Street block will be constructed.
Sunland Builders estimates that each block will take up to 30 days to complete. Each block will be
open to local traffic only during the time it is under construction with transient traffic being
detoured. This means that only those motorists traveling to residences and businesses that border
the work zone will be allowed entree so long as there is driveway access to the residence or business
they are trying to reach. Sunland Builders plans to maintain driveway accesses within the work zone;
however, there may be a few times when a given driveway needs to be closed for one to two hours.
There will also be one time when each driveway will need to be closed for three days so that the
pervious concrete can cure (i.e., harden).
