Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020: Initial assessments show little damage from Isaias.

  • The Town rescinded it's State of Emergency at 10 a.m.
  • Residents are asked to make sure they do not place storm debris in the street.
  • Public restroom facilities in the downtown area will reopen.
  • Town Hall is closed.
  • The trash compactor is back up and running.

Monday, Aug. 3, 2020: Town continues to prepare as Isaias is expected to begin impacting the area in the evening hours.

  • Carteret County is under a Tropical Storm Warning. Carteret County Emergency Services issued a press release with the following key messages. To read the full release click here.
    • Carteret County expects to feel impacts from the storm later this evening, Monday, Aug. 3, 2020.
    • Once inclement weather arrives, individuals should not try to leave their homes.
      • The National Weather Service has advised there is a possibility of a 2-4 foot storm surge, potential of flash flooding, high winds, heavy rain and possible tornados for Carteret County.
      • It is recommended residents secure multiple ways to receive weather updates during the storm. Officials also request residents charge their cell phone, turn their smart phone notifications on, and have a batteries in their weather radio.
      • High winds could cause some power outages. Residents with electric powered medical equipment should plan to have a back-up power source or evacuate to a location where electricity will be accessible throughout and after the storm passes.
      • If a tornado warning is issued, residents in sturdy buildings should report to the lowest accessible level of the home and secure themselves in an interior room, hallway, or underneath stairwells away from windows. Park models, mobile homes or recreational vehicles are not safe during a tornado warning and individuals should seek shelter in a sturdy building.
      • Residents should be cautious while driving. Do not drive through flooded areas even if they look shallow enough to cross. Six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger vehicles causing loss of control and possible stalling.
         

Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020: The Town continues to monitor Isaias as it approaches.

  • Impacts from Isaias are anticipated to begin Monday evening and last into Tuesday. Please continue to monitor this storm as it approaches.
  • Trash/recycling services will operate on their normal schedule on Monday.
  • Town yard waste pickup will also take place on its normal schedule.
  • Public restroom facilities will close at 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, 2020.
  • Beaufort Town Hall will be closed on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020.
  • Please be aware that we are expecting up to 5 inches of rain, strong winds, 1-3 foot storm surge and potential power outages.
  • Please secure loose items and be prepared.
     

Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020: Carteret County and the Town of Beaufort declare a state of emergency. 

  • Town of Beaufort declares a State of Emergency at 10:45 a.m.
  • Carteret County declares a State of Emergency at 9 a.m.
  • Sand bags are available at Public Works (412 Hedrick Street) between 7-10 a.m.

Friday, July 31, 2020:  Citizens are urged to prepare for Hurricane Isaias.

  • Sand bags are available on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 7-10 a.m. at Public Works (412 Hedrick Street) while supplies last.
  • Kayaks stored in Town kayak spaces are to be removed by 12 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2.
  • Citizens are urged to pay close attention to storm forecasts and to be prepared.
  • GFL will meet on Sunday and advise the public on trash and recycling pickup services for the week of Aug. 3.
