BEAUFORT, N.C. -- On June 8, 2026, the Town of Beaufort Board of Commissioners adopted the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 Budget, continuing the Town's commitment to responsible financial management, strategic investment in infrastructure, and maintaining high-quality public services.

The adopted budget totals approximately $25 million and includes funding for the Town's four primary operating funds: General Fund, Water and Sewer Fund, Stormwater Fund, and Beaufort Town Docks Fund. This budget also marks the first full fiscal year of Town-operated management of the Beaufort Town Docks.

Highlights of the adopted budget include:

  • Property Tax Rate Reduction: The Board approved a reduction in the property tax rate from 28.84 cents to 28.75 cents per $100 of assessed value.
  • Employee Investment: A 3% Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) was approved for Town employees.
  • Infrastructure Improvements: Continued investment in water, sewer, stormwater, and transportation infrastructure, including support for more than $31 million in utility system improvements currently underway.
  • Public Safety and Operations: Funding for replacement police vehicles, public works equipment, utility vehicles, and other capital needs to maintain reliable services.
  • Utility Rate Adjustment: To support ongoing infrastructure improvements and debt obligations associated with major utility projects, the budget includes a modest increase of $1 per month each to the in-town water and sewer base rates.

The budget also maintains healthy fund balances that help ensure the Town remains financially resilient and prepared to respond to emergencies, natural disasters, and future capital needs.

The budget reflects Beaufort's continued growth while balancing taxpayer value, infrastructure investments, and excellent customer service.

The FY 2026-2027 Budget takes effect on July 1, 2026. The complete budget document is available on the Town of Beaufort’s website: https://www.beaufortnc.org/finance
