BEAUFORT, N.C. -- This update is being made on the behalf of the NCDOT's Live Oak/NC 101 Project (U-6058) attaching project updates.
This is to ensure that there is ample awareness on the current and future happenings in this area as the NCDOT prepares to install a roundabout in this intersection. The information below specifies progress that has taken place, as well as a general timeline of this project moving forward.
Since the closure of Live Oak Street, crews have:
- Installed storm drainage from McDonald’s to Center Street
- Installed a new water line and fire hydrant across Live Oak Street from Burger King to Carteret Drive
- Begun shallow undercut operations after unsuitable material was discovered beneath the existing asphalt
This week, crews anticipate installing subdrain systems, followed by asphalt base layers. Curb and gutter work is expected to begin during the week after the Fourth of July holiday.
Construction remains on schedule, with Live Oak Street expected to reopen in early September. Once reopened, the next phase of the project will begin with the closure of NC 101 at the intersection. We appreciate you all for your patience during this time.
