Beaufort, N.C. — The Town of Beaufort has issued a State of Emergency effective at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, 2026 in preparation for Winter Storm Gianna, which is expected to bring extreme cold temperatures, high winds, and potential blizzard conditions to the area.
Forecasts indicate that Winter Storm Gianna may produce dangerously cold wind chills, reduced visibility due to blowing snow, and hazardous travel conditions. Residents are urged to complete preparations as soon as possible and to limit travel once conditions begin to deteriorate.
Town officials are also emphasizing heating safety during the storm. As temperatures drop, residents should exercise caution when heating their homes, particularly when using space heaters, fireplaces, or other heating sources. Keep heaters away from flammable materials, never use outdoor heating devices indoors, and ensure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly.
High winds may also cause power outages. Residents should prepare emergency supplies, including flashlights, batteries, food, water, and medications, and have a plan in place in the event of extended outages.
Town departments are actively monitoring conditions and coordinating response efforts. Emergency services will remain operational, and updates will be provided as conditions warrant.
