BEAUFORT, NC – Jaquan Timothy Jackson, 28, of 788 Laurel Road, Beaufort, was taken into custody on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025 in connection with a motor vehicle accident that occurred at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025 at the intersection of Highways 101 and 70 in Beaufort.
Jackson’s charges include Hit and Run Serious Injury/Death, Unsealed Wine/Liquor in the Passenger Area, and Fail to Stop at a Red Light. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
At 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, Beaufort Police Department was dispatched to the intersection of Highways 101 and 70. Upon arrival, officers found two vehicles in the ditch along the side of Highway 101.
There were a total of 4 victims on the scene when officers arrived. One vehicle was on fire and both vehicles contained trapped victims. Emergency services personnel worked quickly to extinguish the fire, remove the victims from the vehicles, and provide medical care. EMS transported all four victims to Carteret General with serious injuries; one victim was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center.
The driver of the vehicle that failed to stop at the red light fled the scene on foot. An open container of alcohol was found inside the vehicle.
The driver was identified as Jaquan Timothy Jackson. There were 3 passengers in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Two victims were trapped inside the vehicle and one was on the ground next to the vehicle when public safety personnel arrived.
The driver of the second vehicle was also trapped in their vehicle.
The Beaufort Police Department was assisted on the scene by the Beaufort Fire Department, Beaufort EMS, Carteret County Sheriff’s Office, Carteret County Medic, Morehead City Fire Department, Atlantic Beach Fire Department, and Otway Fire Department.
