BEAUFORT, NC —Charges have been filed by the Beaufort Police Department in connection to a July 22, 2025 altercation that resulted in serious injury.
On the evening of Tuesday, July 22, a physical altercation occurred between Michael Johnson, 49, and James Allen Jones, 63, at Finz Bar and Grill, 330 Front Street, Beaufort. The incident escalated outside in the parking lot, where Mr. Jones struck Mr. Johnson with a closed fist to the head. Mr. Johnson fell backward, striking his head on the concrete.
Mr. Johnson was initially transported to Carteret Health Care but was later transferred to ECU Health in Greenville due to the severity of his injuries.
On the morning of Aug. 4, 2025, James Allen Jones of 2127 Hwy 70, Beaufort was arrested without incident and charged with Felony Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury. His bond was set on Aug. 5, 2025 at a $100,000 secured bond with conditions.
Police Chief Paul Burdette stated, “This is a tragic incident. Our department has worked closely with medical personnel and the District Attorney’s Office to ensure a thorough investigation.”
