June 27, 2024
BEAUFORT, NC – On Thursday, June 20, 2024, Beaufort Town Manager Todd Clark announced his resignation from the Town of Beaufort.
The Beaufort Board of Commissioners conducted a Special Meeting on Wednesday, June 26 to discuss the hiring process. The Board voted to seek out professional services to assist in hiring Clark’s replacement. The Board then entered a closed session pursuant to N.C.G.S. §143-318.11 (a)(6) to discuss personnel matters.
Upon re-entering open session, the board made a motion to enter into a contract to hire former Beaufort Town Manager Charles Burgess, Jr. as Interim Town Manager in a 3-2 vote.
“We are pleased to welcome back Charles Burgess as our interim Town Manager,” said Mayor Sharon Harker after the meeting. “With his extensive experience and deep familiarity with Beaufort and our community, having served as Town Manager from October 2009 to January 2017, Mr. Burgess is the ideal leader to guide us during this transition. We are very fortunate to have found someone with his expertise and connection to our town to provide stability and leadership as we search for a permanent Town Manager.
Burgess’s experience in government spans more than 40 years and includes leadership roles in both North Carolina and Virginia.
Clark’s last day will be August 3, 2024.
