It’s undeniable that a child’s reading skills are important to their success in school, work, and life in general. And it is very possible to help ensure a child’s success by reading to them starting at a very early age. As a child, my mother always emphasized the importance of reading. She would always say to me “readers are leaders” and that has proven to be very true.
Among my many duties as Mayor, I am starting a reading initiative called “Reading with the Mayor.” I want to share my love for reading with our youth while making reading special. The simple task of reading aloud to a child can significantly benefit a child’s life and it can be lots of fun!
