The Town of Beaufort is in the midst of Budget season. This is a months long process with multiple meetings. The public is invited to be a part of the process. The budget year is July 1, 2021-June 30, 2022.

A budget public hearing will be 4 p.m. Monday, May 24, 2021 during the Board of Commissioner's regularly scheduled work session. Those who would like to speak will be allotted 5 minutes each.   Links to the agenda and the Zoom virtual meeting are below.

The Board will also accept written comments from the public with attention marked to Town Clerk Allen Coleman. Mail to P.O. Box 390, Beaufort, NC 28516, drop off in person at 701 Front Street or emailed to a.coleman [at] beaufortnc.org. Please use the subject line "Public Comment Fy22 Town of Beaufort Budget" and include your first and last name, your address, and your phone number in your written statements. According to the current North Carolina State of Emergency declaration and the rules for conduction public hearings, written comments will be accepted until 9 a.m. Wednesday,  May 26, 2021.

The Town must follow the State guidelines outlined below:

  • The North Carolina Local Government Budget and Fiscal Control Act (NCGS 159, Article 3) requires local governments to adopt an annual budget by June 30 of each year, based on the state mandated fiscal year which runs from July 1 to June 30.
  • The Town’s Annual Budget Ordinance will be balanced in accordance with the Local Government Budget and Fiscal Control Act (NCGS 159-8), which states “A budget ordinance is balanced when the sum of estimated net revenues and appropriated fund balances is equal to appropriations."
