Town of Beaufort Park Rules

The following are general Park rules governing all Town of Beaufort Parks. Please adhere to signage posted in individual parks for additional parks. 

Unless otherwise permitted by the Board of Commissioners and/or Town Manager, all parks and recreational facilities shall be open to the public, during designated hours as established by the Town Manager. The opening and closing hours for each park and recreational facility shall be posted therein. Any exclusive use requires a permit; groups of 25 or more should apply for an event permit. Any park or section thereof may be closed to the public by the Town Manager at any time when Town staff finds such to be reasonably necessary for the maintenance of property or for the protection, health, safety, or welfare of the public.

Park facility rules

(a) All activities are at your own risk.

(b) Children should be supervised at all times.

(c)  Parks close at dusk, unless otherwise posted.

General prohibitions applicable to all parks and recreation facilities

Within the limit of any Town of Beaufort park or within any recreational facility, it is unlawful for any person to:

  • Litter
  • Use Profane or abusive language
  • Possess/use illegal drugs
  • Possess/use alcohol, except by permit
  • Smoke
  • Possess glass containers
  • Amplify sound, except by permit
  • Solicit or panhandle
  • Engage in commercial activity, except by permit
  • Obstruct entrances to the park
  • Dump household/business trash into public receptacles
  • Vandalize property
  • Leave vehicles overnight
  • Camp
  • Light fires or fireworks, except by permit (Park grills not included)
  • Gamble
  • Possess weapons - This does not prohibit concealed handgun permit holders from legally carrying a concealed handgun in accordance with N.C.G.S. 14-415.11.
  • Golf, hunt, skateboard, roller blade, operate ATVs or drones
  • Park in the grass
  • Possess off-leash pets, owners must pick up and dispose of pet waste.

Penalty

If any person shall violate the provisions of this ordinance, he or she shall be required to pay a penalty of not more than $50.
