FY 20 Street Rehabilitation & Construct

A 2018 assessment of street conditions resulted in a report recommending work programs to rehabilitate and preserve Town streets. Undertaking rehabilitation of many of the deteriorating street segments was however, deemed impractical due the presence of deteriorating utility and stormwater lines beneath them. Therefore, the project provides for the resurfacing of only those streets in need of repair for which the underlying utilities are in good condition plus other street construction work. More specifically, the project includes rehabilitation of seventeen street segments totaling 8,300+ linear feet through a combination of patching, mill-patching, milling, and the placing of asphalt surface courses. Seven street segments totaling 7,000+ LF are also to be reconstructed by cement stabilization of the bases and subsequent placement of asphalt surface courses. Additionally, a new, 410+ LF Town street along with turn lanes within a NCDOT-maintained right-of-way are to be constructed to serve the tract located at 1809 Front Street per the agreement with the developer/owner of the property. Construction of 380+ linear feet of new pavement, replacement of 240+ LF of gravity sewer, and construction of stormwater improvements are to occur at a Town-maintained dirt lane known as Howard Jr. Lane. Reconstruction of the 100 block of Orange Street is to occur to include replacement of 520+ LF of gravity sewer, 590+ LF of water main, and 595+ LF of stormwater piping along with the placement of 540+ square yards of permeable concrete and 1,600 + square yards of asphalt surface course. Lastly, approximately 1,350 linear feet of new concrete sidewalk is to be constructed at various locations.
