USDA-Funded Utilities Improvements Project

During the latter part of FY 2020, Town staff, supported by consulting engineers, submitted preliminary engineering reports, environmental assessments, and applications to secure a combination of grants and loans from USDA Rural Development for rehabilitation and replacement of portions of the Town's aging water distribution, sewer collection, and stormwater piping systems. This effort resulted in the Town being awarded a financing package consisting of $5.5 million in grants and $18 million in low-interest, long term loans for the work. The Town accepted the financing package offered by USDA Rural Development during March 2021. Preliminarily, the sewer portion of the work is to involve the inspection of roughly 15,600 linear feet of gravity sewer by closed circuit television (CCTV) followed by approximately 33,600 of sewer line rehabilitation. The water distribution work is expected to result in the replacement of approximately 23,600 linear feet of pipelines along fourteen different streets throughout the Town. The stormwater portion of the project is expected to include replacement and new installation of stormwater lines totaling approximately 5,120 LF along with some CCTV inspection (specifically for Broad Street between Queen Street and Pollock Street) at six locations in the Town.
