What is public engagement? Why is it important?

This is a general term used for a broad range of methods through which members of the public become more informed about and/or influence public decisions.
Public engagement is important as it can help increase the accountability and transparency of research, help government respond to social needs locally, nationally and globally, help to build trust and mutual understanding.

  • Public input is crucial to help shape the future of Beaufort and to inform and guide the Comprehensive Land Use Plan.
  • A series of public meetings and outreach activities are planned for the creation process of Beaufort's Comprehensive Land Use Plan.
